We’re currently gearing up for our first Open Day of 2014.
With more and a ton of new products coming out, the show will be a good chance to check out our products in the flesh and pick up tools at special show only prices. There will also be more second hand machinery and tools than ever.
As ever, our entire range of new products will be on display in our showroom, with plenty of show only discounts for customers who make it us. There will be an entire barn full of second hand machinery and quality used tools on offer.
The workshop of Jason and Brian Rourke with a Warco lathe and milling machine appeared recently on a segment of the Channel 4 show Speed with Guy Martin, where Guy attempted a new world record for the fastest speed recorded on a bicycle.
A specially commissioned bike was needed for the task, so the producers of Guy Martin’s show called upon Jason Rourke to engineer a tailored bike with bespoke gearing to extract maximum power for the world record attempt. Based in Stoke-on-Trent, the Rourkes are some of the top cycle engineers in the country, having built made to measure frames for more than 4,000 top cyclists worldwide.
They’re passionate and skilled engineers, just like so many of our customers, we’re proud that they’ve come to rely on our machines. On the show, we saw part of the build process for the bike.
The attempt was successful, with the bike reaching 112.94mph, an incredible feat which put them in the record books.
It’s not long to go now for the annual Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace, London.
The London Model Engineering Exhibition is one of the biggest of its kind, with a wide variety of club stands from all the top model engineers from across the country showcasing their best creations.
We’re gearing up for the show as we speak, with preparations in full swing. We’ll be showing a large selection of machines from our range, including the majority of our milling machines and lathes, so if you can make it down the show will be a good chance to take a look at our products in the flesh – and ask any questions you might have. We’ll be there with plenty of new products and show only discounts and special offers. We hope to see you there.
The Venue: Great Hall, Alexandra Palace, Alexandra Palace Way, London, N22 7AY
Dates: Friday 17th January to Sunday 19th January 2014.

Following on from our post detailing an installation of Warco lathes & milling machines at Prospects College, we wanted to share some details of another machine tool set up we provided at the JCB Academy in Staffordshire.
The JCB Academy is an all new centre for developing a new generation of engineers and future business leaders, offering a wide range of practical vocational courses. All teaching is backed by the central principle of learning by doing.
The building that houses the Academy was originally a mill, built in the late 18th Century by the famous industrial entrepreneur and engineer Richard Arkwright. It went on to be completely transformed as part of the JCB project, and is now a state of the art educational centre for 21st Century students studying business and engineering.
As part of the process of establishing the facilities, JCB contacted us with a request to set up and equip large scale workshops with a comprehensive range of machinery, in keeping with their aim of creating one of the UK’s largest sites dedicated to the teaching of engineering.
They were after workshops fully set up for work on real-life engineering projects, and we were happy to be able to undertake a bespoke installation of Warco machinery.
We’ve included some photos below of Warco machines in place just after being fitted and installed. Note that rather than the usual Warco green you might expect, as part of the request we supplied all the machinery in bespoke JCB themed colours.
The range of machinery we supplied and handled all aspects of installation for included:
JCB Academy was officially opened by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, you can read about that on the BBC news site. It’s now in its second academic year of training a new generation of engineers and business leaders, something we’re proud to have been a part of.
For further reading about the scale of the project, there was an interesting article published in Technology In Education magazine which we’ve included below.
Update: We had a fantastic turnout at this year’s Summer event, with customers coming from all over the country to visit us. As ever, it wouldn’t be what it is without our loyal customers who make the trip to visit us, so thank you. We’re already planning another for later on in the year, with even more special deals lined up for that day. We’ll be announcing details of that event soon.
We’ve fixed the date for this year’s Summer event for Saturday 20th July 2013, and it’s set to be as big as ever. This summer, we’ll be opening our doors once again and displaying our full range of machines, tools, lathes, milling machines, accessories and much more. Many products will be on sale at show only prices, so if you’re considering buying something from us, making it to the Warco Open Day is always highly recommended.
There will be plenty of parking this time around – we’ll be using a whole field opposite – as well as onsite catering.
The Warco Open Day is held at our premises in Surrey – here’s our full address:
As well as our full range of new tooling, we’ll also have on sale that day an ever popular selection of second hand and ex-demo machinery, tools and accessories – so there’ll be something for everyone.
Update: This year’s event was a great success and we’re happy we made the trip up. Warco were represented with our full range of mills, lathes and assorted small tooling at show prices, if you made it up we hope you found what you were looking for!
We look forward to 2014’s show, and in the meantime here are some photos of the Warco stand at this year’s event.
Original post: Next up on the show calendar is the Model Engineering Exhibition at Harrogate.
Warco have been doing this show alone for close to two decades now, and it’s always been a firm favourite with the northern based model engineers. As ever, we’ll have a comprehensive stand with a range of machinery and tools for sale – of all sizes. So whether it’s a bandsaw blade or a milling machine you’re after, our team will be on hand to supply whatever Warco product you like. We’ll also be offering a range of show only prices and special Harrogate only discounts, so it’ll be well worth paying a visit.
As well as coming to see us, the show is a good opportunity to find a range of the latest model and steam creations – there will be a comprehensive range on display from various clubs, societies and individuals from up and down the country – with over 1000 exhibits there really will be something for everyone.
Held at the Great Yorkshire Showground – HG2 8QZ, the show will run from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th May 2013.
We’ve just had this year’s Spring Open Day, and we’d like to say a special thanks to all of loyal customers who braved the rain and made it down. Despite the gloomy weather, this year’s show was our most successful one day event ever.
Many of you came away with that particular machine you’d been waiting for, whether it was a milling machine, lathe or something smaller like that hard to find second hand bargain, and we were pleased to be of service that day.
At the time of writing, there are still some used and ex demo machines left over from the day, which you’re welcome to order from us the regular way over the phone. Keep an eye on the list at warco.co.uk for more info.
In the meantime, thanks again to those of you we saw this Open Day, we’re already starting to plan the next one for the summer – more details on that event to follow.
